The Rhythm and Soul of the Photograph – Vol I

One of the most intriguing aspects of being a photographer is the ability to capture a story in a single frame. Once you move beyond the posing and into a place where it is as if the photographer isn’t there, that’s where the magic begins to happen. The intrigue comes in when you realize that from one single frame a multitude of stories can be told. The rise and fall of emotion, the soul of the person inside the frame. From observer to observer, one story is just as valid and as possible as the next. As you imagine the story behind the image, you transform from an observer to a creator and story teller. Look into the soul of each image and tell us a story.

The New Wedding Guestbook

It’s all about the new take on The Wedding Guestbook. In the age of graphic design and lifestyle engagement photo sessions, there is no reason to have a guest book that is nothing more than a bunch of lines where you collect the names and addresses of your guests. Let’s think about it. If they are at the wedding, then they were invited. If they were invited then most likely they received an invitation in the mail. If you mailed them an invitation, do you REALLY need to get their address? Instead, give them a chance to see some of the awesome images from your engagement session and allow them to right a message from the heart. This way, 50 years from now you can review your engagement session and see all of the wonderful things your loved ones had to say to you on your big day. Below is a sample from a couple that absolutely loved the idea. It was new to them and they wouldn’t have done it any differently!

Femininity Photography Shoot – The Diva

Beyonce says that “Diva is the female version of a hustler…of a…of a…hustler”. I can’t say I quite understand that. But she IS Beyonce, so of course I’m fully on board! lol The next Dimension of Femininity to be featured is The Diva. Somewhere along the way the connotation of Diva split. For me a Diva is that strong women that is all about handling her business and getting things done. She’s confident, talented and self-assured without being the negative side of “Diva” that originated the name. Here this young lady is all about enjoying her femininity, her sassy and her sexy side. Think Diana Ross in Mahogany or for those younger folks…the mature Deena, played by Beyonce, in Dream Girls. Man, Beyonce gets mentioned three times in a single post…what’s that all about? Enjoy!

Femininity Photography Shoot – The Goddess

A good friend of mine who is on a mission to empower the women of the world commissioned me to feature what she has aptly called the 4 dimensions of femininity. Over the next several days I’ll be posting a few images I captured that were meant to represent each of the dimensions. These same images were featured at her enrichment workshop “My Goddess Retreat” this past weekend. The first featured dimension is “The Goddess”. Think of a heavenly, ethereal and sexy being that exudes the power to determine her own destiny. I think this one is dead on, because some of the most amazing women in my life always prove to be just that. Enjoy!

Maternity Session with Rock Star Mom Sametra

Today I found out that one of my closest college friends is pregnant! Talk about exciting. So, now I’m of course planning and plotting how to get her in front of the camera for a maternity session. She’s a bit shy in front of the camera, but lord knows she’s not a shy person in any other part of her life! So, of course I’ll be recruiting her husband to help me push her in front of my camera so that she can show off a bit. Once she’s there and she sees how amazing she looks, I’m sure she’ll be happy that she did it. So, in honor of the master plan that I’m plotting, I decided to place “Center Stage” my favorite Rock Star mom, Sametra. I photographed her some time ago, but she still is my favorite maternity session to date. She’s bold, beautiful and ridiculously talented. This women is a makeup artist, a dancer and a model…so you can only begin to imagine how much fun we had. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed creating them with her. I truly think that the only thing more beautiful than a Rock Star mom glowing with the life inside her, is when that little life arrives and opens its eyes. Thank you God for the amazing miracles you surround us with every single day! Enjoy this look back at Sametra’s maternity photography session.

There’s No Place on Earth Like New Orleans

As you all may have noticed, I’m playing a bit of catch-up with my blog. I’m back in the swing of things, so check back often. As always, I love reading your comments, so don’t hesitate to click on the comments link beneath each post and leave me a comment. OK, so enough with that. Back in December one of my great friends and I went on a road trip to New Orleans and we had a blast! BTW, my buddy is the good looking Filipino guy pictured below…not as good looking as me, but I digress (smile). OK, back to New Orleans…from the vibrant colors to the awesome jazz and street entertainment, New Orleans has a wonderful and colorful soul. Of course, in true Bourbon St. fashion, there were more than your fair number of, ummm…shall we say “very happy and not so good at walking in a straight line” people. We did the typical N.O. things like screaming “Who Dat” in an obnoxious fashion that drives the locals crazy, and arguing over the proper way to say “New Orlens…Nawlens…New Or-Liens…”, you get the idea. Turns out, the proper way, according to a New Orleans native is “New Orlens”. Alright…moving on…by far, the best part of the trip was seeing awesome street musicians and hearing some of the most amazing jazz at the oldest jazz club in New Orleans, Preservation Hall. We also took a trip out to several of the old plantations.    Here are a few of my favorite images from this awesome trip to “The Big Easy”.
